Cookie Policy

Applies to: venkel.dev Effective date: 15 October 2026 Last updated: 15 October 2026 Version: v0.1 (draft, pending legal review)

This Cookie Policy explains how Plausible Industries LLC ("Plausible Industries," "we," "us," or "our") uses cookies and similar technologies on venkel.dev. It supplements the Venkel Website Privacy Policy.

Short version: by default we set one first-party cookie, which remembers your cookie choice. Google Analytics cookies are set only if you opt in. If your browser sends Global Privacy Control, analytics stays off.

1. What cookies are

Cookies are small text files a website asks your browser to store on your device. "Similar technologies" include local storage, pixels and scripts that read or write data on your device. In this Policy, "cookies" covers both.

2. Cookies we use

2.1 Strictly necessary

We set a single strictly necessary cookie. It is exempt from consent because it is needed to deliver the cookie choice you ask for.

Name Set by Purpose Duration
cookie_consent venkel.dev (first party) Records your analytics choice as analytics=granted or analytics=denied so we can respect it on every page and return visit 1 year

The cookie contains only your choice. It is not used for tracking and is not shared with anyone. venkel.dev has no accounts or logins, so we do not use session or authentication cookies.

2.2 Analytics (only with your consent)

If you opt in, we load Google Analytics 4 ("GA4"), provided by Google LLC, to understand which pages are useful. GA4 sets:

Name Set by Purpose Duration
_ga Google, on venkel.dev Distinguishes visitors for analytics Up to 2 years from your last visit
_ga_<id> Google, on venkel.dev Maintains session state for our GA4 property Up to 2 years from your last visit

We configure GA4 with IP anonymisation requested (anonymize_ip), Google signals disabled and ad personalisation signals disabled, and we set GA4 data retention to 14 months. Cookie lifetime (above) and data retention in Google's systems are separate settings; withdrawing consent or clearing cookies stops new collection.

2.3 What we do not use

We do not use advertising cookies, third-party ad network cookies, social media pixels, cross-site tracking, session recording or fingerprinting.

2.4 Google Fonts

The site loads typefaces from Google Fonts. This sends your IP address and browser information to Google on each page load, but Google states that it does not set cookies for this service. It is described in Section 3.2 of the Privacy Policy.

3. Your choices

3.1 Consent banner

On your first visit we show a banner with three options:

Doing nothing is treated as rejecting: until you opt in, GA4 does not load and no analytics cookies are set. Analytics also runs only on the live venkel.dev site, not on test or preview copies.

3.2 Changing your mind

Use the "Manage cookie preferences" link in the footer of every page to reopen the banner with your current choice pre-filled. If you withdraw consent, GA4 stops loading from your next page view. GA4 cookies already on your device remain until they expire or you delete them; you can delete them in your browser settings at any time.

3.3 Global Privacy Control

We honour Global Privacy Control ("GPC"). If your browser sends a GPC signal:

We also treat GPC as a request to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information under California law, although we do neither. Learn more at globalprivacycontrol.org.

3.4 Browser controls

Most browsers let you view, delete and block cookies:

If you block all cookies, we cannot remember your choice and the banner will appear on each visit; GA4 will still not load unless you accept.

4. Legal basis (EEA, UK and Switzerland)

We set the cookie_consent cookie because it is strictly necessary to provide the consent mechanism you are using. We set GA4 cookies only with your consent, as required by the ePrivacy Directive, the UK Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations and the GDPR. You can withdraw consent at any time as described in Section 3.2. For your other data protection rights, see Section 9 of the Privacy Policy.

5. Children

venkel.dev is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly place non-essential cookies on devices used by children.

6. Changes

We will update this Policy if the cookies we use change, and revise the "Last updated" date. If we add a new category of non-essential cookie, we will ask for your consent again before setting it.
